29.02.2024 -

As the principal airport for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ercan International Airport serves as a “window to the world” for the TNRC and Nicosia, the country’s capital. If you're planning a trip to Northern Cyprus, keep reading to find out more about Nicosia’s Ercan International Airport, now featuring a new terminal and runway.

A few notes about the new Ercan Airport…

Ercan International Airport, the only airport serving the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, was named for Major Fehmi Ercan, a senior pilot and graduate of the Turkish Air Force Academy. Major Ercan was martyred on the first day of the Cyprus Peace Operation.

Ercan Airport opened for civil air traffic on February 3, 1975.

The airport features a 20,000-square-meter terminal building and a parking area spanning 34,000 square meters. The main runway is 2,755 meters long.

The original Ercan Airport was renovated to international standards and reopened on May 10, 2004.

The airport’s modern new terminal is six times larger than the former terminal; the new runway will be 3,100 meters long and suitable for all types of aircraft. Ercan Airport will offer the highest passenger capacity on the island of Cyprus.

At this time, direct flights are available only between Ercan International Airport and Türkiye. Passengers flying to TNRC from other countries must stop in Türkiye before flying into Ercan Airport.
