Tourism revenue up 18% in October – U.S., Swiss biggest spenders

Earnings from tourism reached €407.9 mln in October, a 17.7% year on year increase from €346.5 mln in the same month last year, with per person spending also rising, up 9.3% to €888.47, from €812.95 in October last year.

Based on the monthly Passengers Survey, the statistical service Cystat reported that for the January-October period, revenue from tourism is estimated at €2.983,8 bln compared to €2.802,6 bln in the same period of 2023, an increase of 6.5%.

Tourism revenue saw an increase during eight of the ten months this year.

In all, Cyprus welcomed 459,106 tourists in October, up from 426,272 in the same month last year.

Of these, 166,588 were from the U.K. (October 2023: 154,373), 37,010 from Poland (28,649), 34,822 from Germany (30,178), 24,088 from Israel (24,428) and 18,713 from Sweden (16,288).

Holidaymakers from the U.K. (the largest market with 36.3% share of all tourists in October) spent on average €114.99 per day, while tourists from Poland (the second largest market with 8.1% of the total) spent on average €85.41. German tourists (the third largest market with a 7.6% share), spent on average €109.22 per day.

Tourists from six countries spent more than a thousand euros each during their stay on the island. They were from the U.S. (€1,443), Switzerland (€1,247), Norway (€1,129), Belgium (€1,102), the U.K. (€1,092) and the Netherlands (€1,039).

This is up from tourists from just two countries last October – Switzerland and Austria – who spent on average €1,185 and €1,115, respectively.

The longest stay tourists were from the U.S. with an average 14.9 days, Norway (9.8 days), the U.K. (9.5 days), Switzerland (9.0 days), Sweden (8.8 days), Germany (8.6 days), the Netherlands (8.5 days) and Italy (8.0 days).
