According to reports in the Azerbaijani media, it was reported that the route of the plane was changed due to fog in Grozny. It was stated that there were 72 people on the crashed passenger plane. Kazakh authorities reported that there were survivors on the crashed plane.

Authorities announced that 6 people on the Azerbaijan Airlines plane survived, but their conditions were serious. 52 personnel and 11 units of equipment belonging to the Kazakh Emergencies Ministry were dispatched to the scene.
