Former Minister of Tourism Nahit Menteşe has passed away
Nahit Menteşe, who served in Turkish politics for many years and was one of the former ministers of tourism, passed away in Ankara at the age of 92. His funeral will be held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and then buried in the State Elders Cemetery.

He served as a member of parliament for six terms
Born in the Milas district of Aydın in 1932, Nahit Menteşe graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law. After continuing his legal career as a lawyer for a short time, he entered politics. In 1965, he was elected as a member of parliament for Aydın from the Justice Party and served in the TBMM for a total of six terms.
Menteşe served in various roles in the governments in which Süleyman Demirel was prime minister, including Minister of Customs and Monopoly, Minister of Transportation, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Minister of Tourism and Promotion, Minister of National Education and Minister of the Interior. He also served as Deputy Prime Minister in 1996.
Menteşe’s funeral will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the TBMM, after the official ceremony, and will be held at the Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque, where he will be buried at the Cemetery of the State Elders.
